About Compass Center

Why Compass Center

We Leverage every dollar for maximum effectiveness.

The Compass Center distinguishes itself not only by its compassionate approach and effective programs, but also by the excellence of its management. It is a lean, well-run organization. With exceptional financial acumen, The Compass Center's directors leverage every dollar donated with city, state and federal funding. We regularly partner with compatible organizations such as the Vietnam Veterans Leadership Project and the Oxford Houses.

Our Staff and Leadership

The Compass Center is also distinguished by its staff. We currently employ 80 people full-time and 50 people on a part-time basis. The agency has been successful in retaining quality staff, in spite of relatively low compensation, by creating a supportive work environment and providing good benefits. We make a concerted effort to hire and support staff who reflect the cultural and ethnic composition of our targeted population. The Compass Center efficiently serves Hispanic clients with bi-lingual personnel, for example.

The staff of The Compass Center plays a strong leadership role in community and service provider networks including:

  • Healthcare for the Homeless, Advisory Board
  • Center for Ethical Leadership, Board of Directors
  • Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness
  • Human Services and Housing now PAC
  • Single Adult Committee of the King County Homeless Coalition, Co-Chair
  • Executive Alliance

The agency also holds memberships in Community Action for Homeless Women, the Human Services Coalition, King County Coalition against Domestic Violence, the Low-Income Housing Congress, and the Pioneer Square Community Organization.
