Our Mission
"The Compass Center provides transitional and emergency services to homeless men, women and families at 18 locations in the Puget Sound Region. In the Lutheran tradition of caring through serving, The Compass Center offers unique services and structured programs that promote the dignity of each person and lead individuals from homelessness to independence and healthy community life."
More than 8000 men and women are homeless every night in King County
Half of those without homes are men and almost 40% of those men are veterans. Homelessness is not a simple matter, but the causes fall into three broad categories:
- Economic problems such as eviction, unemployment, or the lack of affordable housing
- Personal crisis such as divorce, domestic violence, and battery
- Chronic disabilities including alcoholism, substance abuse, and mental illness
Someone who lives on the street is cut off from routines, resources, and support. In our society they are often ignored, or treated as less than human. More than anything they yearn to be part of a loving community, to be someone who is treated with dignity and respect.
